Indications of Alesse

Alesse is essentially used for the prevention of pregnancy. This drug could also be used for any other conditions which have been determined by your physician. Allesse is basically a combination birth control pill which works through the prevention of ovulation, alteration of the cervical mucus and through changing the uterus lining to prevent implantation.

When Not to Use Alesse

Alesse should not be used if you: have any history of being allergic to an ingredient found in Alesse; have any history of problems in blood clotting, irregular heartbeat or heart disease; hav any blood vessel problems like problems in blood flow in the heart or brain; have chest pain like in heart attacks or angina; have been experiencing headaches or migraines; have uncontrolled high blood pressure; have breast cancer; have diabetes which affects circulation; have estrogen-dependent growths; have cervical, endometrial or vaginal cancer; have yellowing of the skin or eyes; have undiagnosed vaginal bleeding; have tumors or liver disease; are or you suspect that you are pregnant; are confined to a chair or bed for a long time; or have had surgery. If these apply to you, be sure to contact your physician.

Administration of Alesse

Alesse should only be used as your physician directed. However, it would be advisable to check the drug label to have more information on the dosage instructions. Alesse could be taken orally on a full or empty stomach. Keep in mind, though, that if you experience stomach upset, it would be good to take it with food so that stomach irritation would be reduced. You would need to begin taking Alesse the first Sunday after your period started, unless directed by your physician to do otherwise. However, if your period starts on a Sunday, you can start taking Alesse that day.

It would be advisable to take Alesse around the same time everyday and not more than exactly a day or 24 hours apart. Once you have taken the last pill of the pack, you should start taking the new pack’s first pill. To ensure the effectiveness of Alesse, you would need to take it daily. Make sure that you would not be skipping any doses. However, if you miss one dose of Alesse, but have remembered it on that same day, you would need to take it as soon as you remember and then just go back to the regular schedule you had. If you miss more than a dose of Alesse, you would need to check the patient information leaflet which comes with Alesse. You could also contact your physician for further instructions. You would probably need to make use of an additional form of birth control like condoms until you are able to talk with your physician.
